About OSKIDO
Artist Biography
OSKIDO is undoubtedly the godfather of South African dance music. In the early ’90s, OSKIDO (born Oscar Mdlongwa in Brits in 1967) was one of the pioneering DJs who slowed down the tempo of house tracks to birth kwaito. Around the same time, OSKIDO co-founded the iconic independent label Kalawa Jazmee Records, whose game-changing productions have helped define and shape popular South African music. As a dynamic producer and record executive, OSKIDO has helped establish the careers of many legendary artists such as Boom Shaka, Black Coffee, Mafikizolo, DJ Tira, and DJ Maphorisa. Alongside Don Laka as Brothers of Peace, OSKIDO fused house music with traditional African sounds to contribute to the evolution of Afrohouse. His extensive discography ranges between kwaito, house, tribal house, Afrohouse, and gqom. And in the late 2010s, OSKIDO delved into amapiano, helping illustrate his musical foresight and staying power.
