Mixing trap-style drums with melodic, candy-toned synths, LA-based DJ and producer Ookay straddles the line between hard bangers and pop hits.
• The man behind the in-your-face productions is actually a jazz connoisseur. Ookay’s parents performed in a jazz band and a gospel choir, and that childhood exposure remains a big influence.
• He started producing electronic music at 16, after he’d learned drums, bass guitar, and trombone.
• Ookay’s big break came in 2014, when Diplo tapped him to collaborate on an official remix of Avicii’s “You Make Me.”
• In 2017, Ookay teamed up with Marshmello and Noah Cyrus for “Chasing Colors.” The dance-pop single peaked at No. 8 on the Billboard Hot Dance/Electronic Songs chart.
• Ookay is a member of the self-described “EDM boy band” The Binches, alongside DotCom (Marshmello’s original moniker), Kayzo, and Yultron.
• Besides Avicii, Ookay has produced remixes for artists like The Chainsmokers and Rico Nasty.
