Since emerging with Afro-house trio Muungu Afrika in 2014, Mr Brown’s falsetto-draped vocals and soul-infused, polyrhythmic beats have made him a driving force in South African house music. Through works with King Monada and Master KG (“Skeleton Move”), Nomcebo Zikode (Xola Moya Wam’), and Makhadzi (Kokovha), Mr Brown (born Lynol Siwela in Zimbabwe) helped pioneer the Limpopo province’s unique brand of house music. In 2021, the Open Mic Productions signee showcased his versatility as a singer and songwriter on his debut solo album Rain on Me, delivering his emotional lyrics in Shona, Zulu, and English, proving that the dance producer can hold his own in the realms of Afropop and Afrosoul.
