Artist Biography
Born Obakeng Kekana in Hammanskraal, South Africa in 1996, DJ Obza is an amapiano producer with a knack for soulful melodies and thumping basslines. His first two albums, 2020’s Masego, and Memeza, a 2021 collaborative record with the producer Bongo Beats, revealed a diverse producer who could merge soaring gospel synths with genres such as Afropop and Afro-soul to craft certified summer jams like “Idlozi Lami” and “Mang’ Dakiwe.” Signed to Open Mic Productions—where he’s in the company of South African dance music stars such as Nomcebo Zikode, Master KG, and Zanda Zakuza—DJ Obza has contributed production to his labelmates’ songs and projects while continuing to supply a steady stream of uplifting dance-floor anthems.
