Molchat Doma is a trio from Belarus who found international fame—and viral success—with their goth-tinged blend of post-punk, new wave, and synth-pop.
∙ Formed in Minsk in 2017, the band’s name translates to “Houses Are Silent.”
∙ Their first two LPs, 2017’s С Крыш Наших Домов and 2018’s Этажи, found new fans in the US with 2020 reissues on the Brooklyn label Sacred Bones.
∙ In 2020, “Судно (Борис Рижий)”—a track off Этажи—became an international viral sensation.
∙ Molchat Doma contributed “Небеса и Ад” (a cover of Black Sabbath’s “Heaven and Hell”) to What Is This That Stands Before Me?, a 2020 tribute compilation to the legendary metal band.
∙ The group’s third full-length, Monument, arrived in 2020 and reached No. 12 on the Billboard World Albums chart.
