Artist Biography
Singer-songwriter Maninder Buttar found fame on India’s pop scene by mixing modern electronic, hip-hop, and R&B sounds with traditional Punjabi instrumentation and vocals.
∙ He broke through in 2014 with the genre-bending “Dil Nu,” from the film Oh My Pyo!, and “Yaari,” which was nominated for Most Popular Song at the PTC Punjabi Music Awards.
∙ “Sakhiyaan,” the 2018 smash that made him a superstar, hit No. 1 on Punjabi music charts, reached the Top 10 of Billboard’s Top Triller Global chart, and drew more than 440 million views.
∙ Acclaimed Punjabi actress Sargun Mehta appeared in the video for his 2019 hit, “Laare,” and Buttar received offers to appear in almost a dozen films himself following the single’s success.
∙ The tender love song “Dil Main Nahi Laona” was featured on the soundtrack for the 2019 blockbuster Laiye Je Yaarian, which earned six nominations at the PTC Punjabi Film Awards.
