Since emerging in the mid-2010s, Majid Jordan has served up alternative R&B at the intersection of shapeshifting neon synths and fraught intimacy. The duo began when vocalist Majid Al Maskati and producer Jordan Kenneth Cooke Ullman met as students at the University of Toronto. In 2013, they coproduced Drake's acclaimed Nothing Was the Same single "Hold On, We're Going Home," and by 2014, they'd released their major-label debut EP, A Place Like This, as part of Drake's OVO Sound label. With the project, the duo suffused Jordan's ambient, disembodied soundscapes with Majid's wispy tenor and romantic ruminations, a combination that proved as stylish as it was engrossing. For subsequent projects like The Space Between (2017), Wildest Dreams (2021), and Good People (2023), Majid Jordan swerved between new wave, synth-pop, and shimmering funk, crystallizing their status as premier stylists in the expansive realm of alt-R&B.
