Luke Hemmings crafts textural, baroque pop music that overflows with passion. Born in Freemans Reach, Australia in 1996, Hemmings took to busking around his hometown as a teen before founding the pop group 5 Seconds of Summer in 2011. Drawing on sounds from pop-punk, emo, and New Wave, 5SOS became a massive commercial success, laying a solid foundation for Hemmings to also pursue his own solo project. In 2021, he released his first album under his own name, When Facing the Things We Turn Away From, expanding on vibes 5SOS were exploring in the late 2010s and early 2020s, including buoyant, celebratory numbers (“Starting Line”) and dreamy, atmospheric songs (“Baby Blue”). But it also allowed him to get more personal on tracks like the slow-blossoming “Mum,” a soul-baring letter to his mother.
Luke Hemmings has also released music as a member of 5 Seconds of Summer.
