Best known as the bassist for Sydney pop-rock juggernauts 5 Seconds of Summer, Calum Hood has also proven himself as a successful songwriter and solo artist. Born in 1996 in Mount Druitt, New South Wales, Hood co-founded 5SOS in 2011, while he was still in high school. Though he often sang backing vocals in the band, he enjoyed his first foray as lead vocalist on the feel-good 2020 single “Wildflower.” Five years later, he made his solo debut with ORDER chaos ORDER, which topped the Australian chart and introduced more texture and depth to his intensely heartfelt songwriting. Lead single “Don’t Forget You Love Me” introduced a darker, more brooding vocal approach, while “Call Me When You Know Better” added surprising scope to its thrumming synth-pop. Made in collaboration with Jackson Phillips, aka Day Wave, the album also tapped in-demand drummer Adam Christgau (Troye Sivan, Tegan and Sara) and balanced Hood’s more anthemic impulses with a healthy selection of confiding ballads.
Calum Hood has also released music as a member of 5 Seconds of Summer.
