After dropping out of high school to pursue music, Memphis rapper Lil Wyte carved out a special lane for himself as a white Southern crunk artist.
• Wyte discovered his lyrical abilities at eight years old, when he skillfully rapped Sir Mix-a-Lot’s “Baby Got Back.”
• After choosing the rap moniker Lil Wyte—inspired by his best friend Lil Black—he began writing lyrics. He later dropped out of school to join the rap group Shelby Forest Click.
• The group’s demo tape made it to Three 6 Mafia’s Juicy J and DJ Paul, who quickly signed Wyte to the Hypnotize Minds label.
• Wyte’s 2003 debut album, Doubt Me Now, was produced entirely by Juicy J and DJ Paul. It sold more than 100,000 copies without promotion.
• In 2007, Wyte released his most successful project, The One and Only, which hit No. 3 on Billboard’s Top Rap Albums chart.
• He created his own strain of medical cannabis, OG Wyte Kush, in 2013.
