Skilled at crafting pop songs under his own name, excellent at producing albums for others, with enough session chops to play with legends like Echo & the Bunnymen and Robyn Hitchcock, Kelley Stoltz has carved out a career for himself on the fringes of the indie rock scene since the late '90s. After a series of homemade albums released on small labels, he signed to Sub Pop, where he delivered strong garage psych-meets-power pop albums in the mid-2000s that established him as both an artist and a producer. He spent the 2010s jumping from label to label, gradually softening and expanding his sound to include more psychedelic elements while occasionally experimenting with it, as on 2017's synth-heavy Que Aura, 2020's mod punk Hard Feelings, and 2022's piano-heavy The Stylist. After becoming a parent for the first time, Stoltz released his glowing and energetic 18th solo album, La Fleur, in 2024.
Kelley Stoltz has also released music as a member of Zig Speck & His Specktones, Robert Chuffley & His Tranquil Peoples Choir, Earth Girl Helen Brown, Prince Nedick & The Conks, Fuckaroos, and Loud Fast Fools.
