Julia Mestre plays a sultry amalgam of Música Popular Brasileira (MPB), sophisti-pop, disco, and bossa nova, combining it all with a youthful flair and plenty of finesse. Based in Rio de Janeiro, she began her career as an actress, before making her musical debut in the latter half of the 2010s. She immediately stood out, not only for the quality of her songwriting and arrangements, but for instrumental prowess and adventurousness. After 2019's Tropicalia-leaning Geminis, she found breakout success as a member of the Brazilian supergroup Bala Desejo which won a Latin Grammy Award for their 2022 album SIM SIM SIM. After that, Mestre struck out on her own again, adopting a sleeker and more refined sound on 2023's Arrepiada and 2025's Maravilhosamente Bem.
