English singer John Newman draws from pop and Northern Soul on uptempo, dance-ready songs that he sings with raw, powerful vocals.
• Newman signed to Island records in 2010 at the age of 20, but his breakthrough came as a featured vocalist on “Feel the Love,” a 2012 single by the drum ‘n’ bass band Rudimental.
• His 2013 debut single, “Love Me Again,” became a hit across Europe and reached the top of the UK singles chart.
• Newman described his first album, 2013’s Tribute, as a breakup album that encompassed influences from breakbeat to hip-hop, orchestral to house music. The album debuted at No. 1 on the UK albums chart.
• After a second album, Revolve, in 2015 and the EP A.N.i.M.A.L in 2019, Newman left his label and management in 2020. He described it as a “pause” in his career to focus on his mental health.
