Based in Pennsylvania, Denison Witmer is a poetic singer/songwriter whose albums are rooted in acoustic folk and the softer elements of indie rock. Early on in his career, he was championed by Innocence Mission guitarist Don Peris, who produced and played on releases like 2001's Of Joy & Sorrow and 2005's breakout Are You a Dreamer?, which also featured Sufjan Stevens. Known for his introspective tone and lyrical honesty, Witmer later became associated with Stevens' Asthmatic Kitty label, which released his eponymous 2013 album as well as 2020's American Foursquare. Stevens himself produced Witmer's 2025 album Anything At All.
