U.K. outfit Climax Blues Band made their recording debut in 1969 with THE CLIMAX CHICAGO BLUES BAND, which evoked the early work of John Mayall and Savoy Brown. Its somewhat anachronistic approach was dropped for the follow-up, PLAYS ON, with the use of wind instruments implying an affiliation with jazz-rock groups such as Colosseum. Later albums A LOT OF BOTTLE and TIGHTLY KNIT would put a greater emphasis on rock. The band scored a surprise top 10 hit on both sides of the Atlantic with 1976's "Couldn't Get It Right." In 1982, the band earned a spot in the heart of U.S. wedding DJs with the earnest top 20 hit "I Love You." The continued to tour and record regularly, and the 1994 live album BLUES FROM THE ATTIC sounded remarkably fresh for a band that had been gigging for so long.
