Anchored by rich, melodic guitar work from Andra Junaidi and Stevie Item and infused with Dedy Lisan’s gruff, emotive voice—look no further than the band’s signature song “Sempurna” for evidence—Andra And The Backbone were initially formed as a side project during the hiatus of Dewa 19, the iconic rock band for whom Junaidi has served as lead guitarist since 1986. Launched in 2007, the trio are among Indonesia’s most popular bands, renowned as much for their soulful, acoustic-based numbers as they are for their anthemic rollers, which include “Tak Ada Yang Bisa” and “Hitamku”.
