Lyrics
He was 15 when he left that home
with his first love and a bag of clothes
from an orphanage on the south side of Chicago
They were, young and scared and full of faith
on that bitter cold November day
Searchin' for a new place to call their own
They didn't have no money, no credit cards
They just had each other and love in their hearts.
You can see the desperation, the holes in his jeans
And you can see the scared in her eyes
of life's uncertainties.
You can feel the sweat, the blood, the tears
And the reasons to turn back
But you can't see all the things that they had
In those faded photographs
He was 18 when he had to leave, headed
to Join the good fight overseas with a
pregnant wife and a daughter on the way.
She was tryin' hard to make it alone wonderin'
If her love was gonna make it home He wrote her,
said, Baby, I promise we'll be okay
They didn't have no money, no credit cards
But they still had each other and love in their hearts
You can see the desperation, the holes in army greens
You can see the scared in her eyes With a baby on her knees
You can feel the sweat, the blood, the tears and the reasons to turn back
But you can't see all the things that they had
In those faded photographs
He finally fought his way back home
to his wife and his little girl
No matter how hard life became,
they made up his whole world
You can see the desperation, the holes in his old jeans
You can see the scared in her eyes Of life's uncertainty
But they lived the sweat, the blood, the tears
And they never did turn back
Cause they knew all the things that they had In those faded photographs
Faded Photographs.
I was 19 when I found that frame
On the mantel over the fireplace
at my grandma's on the south side of Chicago....
