Hopefully Tomorrow

I spent my time at summer camp in the Texas heat

Playing games and not talking to girls

It was all fun until you made it to the last night of the week

That’s when they’d start the hard sell for the Lord

I told them I was Catholic but that wasn’t good enough

They said “You need to tell us which day you were saved”

I didn’t have the words back then but now that I’ve grown up

If I could go back I’d answer them this way

Yesterday

This morning

And hopefully tomorrow

I guess I had a faint sense of direction when I was young

And I thought my dreams were just around the bend

In some ways I became the guy I wanted to become

But it wasn’t by a path I’d recommend

I haven’t been a careful man - I’ve broken many things

Most of which were broken promises

I’ve found there is no quick fix that will wipe the record clean

But I get the chance to live out my amends

Yesterday

This morning

And hopefully tomorrow

There’s a salvation that’s bigger than just living in the sky

There’s redemption and a heaven here on earth

And there’s someone that God planted like a gift into my life

Somehow I still get to wake up next to her
