Goldfish

If I was a goldfish, swimming in a bowl

With no concerns of past or present, no thoughts of growing old

I’d float through the disbelief and constant ecstasy

Of each new moment spent behind the glass that quickly came to me

You’d walk through the room

My whole universe in you

All the things I ever could desire wrapped up in you

When you’d feed me

If I was a house plant, adorned in macrame

My only need to stretch my leaves when the sun came out to play

I’d wait for you to water me so I could catch your scent

And as you’d take me in I’d feel your touch upon my stems
