Lyrics
He’s The Hero/My Dad
20/06/2021 © Gary Quinn
When I was growin’ up I dreamt the same old young boys dreams
Imagination running wild, no stopping who I could be
Superman, save the world, won the game, got the girl
Or singin’ at The Opry like a country celebrity
But who I wanted to be like most, didn’t fly in a shiny suit
He worked his fingers to the bone and tended to his family roots
He don’t wear a cape and he can’t stop a bullet with his hand
But he protects me with life lessons and he made me understand
That kindness and forgiveness are the real strengths of a man
He’s the hero that I’m tryin’ to be so bad, he’s my Dad
Now I’m grown up my dreams are mostly for my children
Makin’ sure that they both know they’re one in seven billion
Be the man in their world cos he’s my boy and she’s Daddy’s girl
Prayin’ that they see in me all I want to be in him
And I’m doin’ everythin’ to be just half the man he is
Cos he don’t wear a cape and he can’t stop a bullet with his hand
But he protects me with life lessons and he made me understand
That kindness and forgiveness are the real strengths of a man
He’s the hero that I’m tryin’ to be so bad, he’s my Dad
And each Sunday I give thanks on bended knee
For the example and the love that he gives to me
Yeah he don’t wear a cape and he can’t stop a bullet with his hand
But he protects me with life lessons and he made me understand
That kindness and forgiveness are the real strengths of a man
He’s the hero that I’m tryin’ to be so bad,
And just like me I hope my kids can say proudly, he’s my Dad
He’s my Dad.
