When I was a little boy
Around the age of nine and fourteen years old
My mother and paternal grandmother would take me to church without fail
When my mother couldn't make it

Whatever happened, both these ladies made sure I didn't miss church, not one bit
Our church was the African Methodist
Popularly known to our people as Tonki
It is still there, located on 10th avenue in Alexandra township
Although I didn't belong to a church choir because I was too young
Nevertheless, I knew all the hymns by heart
Some of my favourites were "Lala ho nna Shwalane e Wele"

But most of all, my favourite was "Kedumetse ho Morena"
