Selects is where the world’s best DJs and producers showcase their favorite tracks of any given moment, new and old, with no format restrictions. In this special edition, you’ll hear songs chosen by German DJ/producer Michael Mayer. The selections are wonderfully expansive and, at times, surprising: There’s elegant, minimal techno from Robag Wruhme and Axel Boman, poetic German indie rock courtesy of Hamburg’s Tocotronic, and a twinkling, harp-inflected lullaby from Rufus Wainwright. Mayer was moved by all of it. “This playlist features music from yesterday and today that may or may not have inspired my new album The Floor Is Lava,” he tells Apple Music. “As the title implies, my aim was to steer clear of any worn-out-of-shape genre. [The album is] a passionate call for an open-minded approach to music consumption, and so is this special playlist.”
