The Viper Creek Band has perfected a truth-telling brand of Australian country rock. The Newcastle quintet introduced themselves with the 2012 party anthem “Crazy Tonight,” marrying big rock guitar with warm banjo licks and keyboard runs against lead singer Damien Baguley’s promise for rowdy, romantic times ahead. The next year’s “Dance Like No One’s Watching” proved equally rousing, with Baguley encouraging us to find inner strength in dark times. “Kickin’ Up Dust” was aptly named enough to become the title track of their 2014 debut album, only for 2016’s “Rockstars” to play like a self-fulfilling prophecy for the hard-touring ensemble. And true enough, arena-style vocal whoops heralded their biggest hit yet in 2018’s “Green Light,” hammering home that recurring theme of seizing the moment for a proper shot at lasting love. By contrast, programmed beats and melodies percolate at the start of 2021’s more playful “People Drinkin’ Beer,” whereas the 2022 ballad “The Power of Music” paints an affecting portrait of escaping troubled times through a great tune. The Viper Creek Band’s conviction has yet to waver, whether they’re celebrating romantic abandon on 2024’s “Light Up The Night” or personal perseverance on 2025’s “It Is What It Is.”
