The Kinks: Influences
Playlist - 14 Songs
Though Ray Davies was celebrated for the British wit of his songs, his direct influences were more American. John Lee Hooker's hard-driving primitive blues and Little Richard's ecstatic early rock ‘n' roll directly informed The Kinks' ‘60s sound, while Davies' lyrical acumen can be traced back to the sharp vignettes of Chuck Berry and Eddie Cochran, with a little of George Formby's Music Hall humor thrown in.
