The endless dramas of youth provide a running theme for Adelaide-born Shaylee Curnow, aka Peach PRC, whose brightly hued pop draws directly from her personal experience and observations as an astute twentysomething. Her 2019 single “Blondes” celebrates the exhilaration of queer passion born from a night at the club, while 2021’s “Josh” is about a very messy guy who lives with his parents (and still owes Curnow money). Every emotion gets heightened by her songs’ candied synth melodies and skittering beats, including the darker shades of heartache: 2020’s “Colourblind” is about being reduced to a black-and-white world, and 2022’s “Forever Drunk” describes finding solace in only one unfortunate state. That’s not to say she’s a downer, though. From her winking song intros to her pink-powered personal aesthetic, Curnow always finds the neon lining in just about anything that life can dish out. “They say only the good die young,” she sings on 2024’s “Time of My Life.” “But that’s not us, it never was.”
