HAYLA: Free to Be
Playlist - 27 Songs
“Pride has always been such a vibrant event,” HAYLA tells Apple Music. “I’ve always felt a sort of magic in the air when attending and being around the city during Pride.” The UK artist and songwriter has compiled this celebratory playlist ahead of her performance at Sydney Mardi Gras—her first-ever Pride performance. “I can’t wait to be onstage at my very first Pride show,” she said ahead of the festivities. “It’s an honor and a privilege to be invited to perform and celebrate such an important event. I want my set to be one that connects everybody on the dance floor! One that everyone can sing along to at the top of their lungs with the ones they love—family, partners, friends, and new friends.”
HAYLA’s playlist runs the gamut of LGBTQ+ anthems and artists, along with pop classics and more. You’ll find plenty of heavy hitters—Destiny’s Child, Madonna, Britney Spears, George Michael—alongside current LGBTQ+ stars like Chappell Roan, Billie Eilish, and Troye Sivan, plus her own John Summit collab, “Shiver,” and “Fall Again,” from her 2024 album DUSK. Read on for more on some of her fave tracks from the playlist.
“Baddy on the Floor,” Jamie xx, Honey Dijon
“I’ve been a fan of Jamie xx for years and love this collaboration with the one and only Honey Dijon, who I’m performing alongside at Sydney Mardi Gras. It's such an epic track!”
“Higher Love,” Kygo, Whitney Houston
“I wanted to choose a Whitney track, as apart from being an absolute icon, she was one of my biggest inspirations when starting out as a vocalist. As I’ve been fortunate enough to join Kygo on tour, I thought this remix was the perfect selection.”
“Flawless (Go to the City),” George Michael
“Need I say more?”
“I Feel for You,” Chaka Khan”
“Every time I worked on Sundays when my best mate was working at a bar called New York New York on Canal St. in Manchester, I would head in for a drink or five after my shift. This song seemed to always be playing. It holds such great memories of unexpected nights and afternoons out.”
