Driving the Green Book traces the path from Detroit to New Orleans in a quest to honor those who lived through segregation, including artists who needed the guide to plan their travels safely. The musicians featured here patronized the Black-only hotels as outlined, played in nightclubs that were often integrated if only in audience, and helped create the soundtrack of the era. In listening, we get a snapshot of both the injustice of the time and the resilience and beauty born of it.
