In June 2019, the Colombian hip-hop group ChocQuibTown was recognized by the MIPAD (Most Influential People of African Descent) organization as one of the 100 most influential Afro cultural leaders worldwide. ChocQuibTown, comprised of Goyo, Slow Mike, and Tostao, was founded with the intention of combining urban rhythms with the sound of the Afro-Colombian people of Chocó. The group’s Black Music Month playlist, which includes Grupo Niche, Pharrell, Pedro Capó, and Nina Simone, speaks to their wide array of influences.
