On the rebound after being fired from The Clash, singer-guitarist Mick Jones started Big Audio Dynamite in 1984. Mashing up dance music, hip-hop, ska, and funk with Jones' signature punk hooks, the band created an urban-alternative sound which was well received on their UK Gold debut, This Is Big Audio Dynamite. Over the next 14 years and nine releases, the band endured lineup and name changes, with Jones being the only consistent member, before disbanding in 1998. Reforming in 2011, the original lineup has resumed playing periodic live dates to much critical acclaim.
