Mixtape for Mother Earth
Playlist - 35 Songs
In honor of Earth Day, British singer-songwriter Bishop Briggs takes over our Mixtape for Mother Earth playlist with a selection of songs to pay tribute to our planet. Below, she explains a few of her choices. Bishop Briggs, “In Your Eyes” “Growing up I always noticed a consistent theme in nature preservation and animal care and it was Dr. Jane Goodall. It was the biggest honor to be able to write a song where I could try my best to embody her spirit and all the incredible work she had done for the planet.” Maggie Rogers, “Alaska” “As the years go by I still find myself deeply drawn to the messaging and atmosphere of this song. Who wants to escape to Alaska and immerse themselves in the landscape there? I know I do!” Bon Iver, “Skinny Love” “I remember where I was when I first heard this song. It stopped me in my tracks. Even more notable is that he went to the woods to write all of this and apparently the guitar is slightly out of tune so it’s nearly impossible to replicate. Beautiful and raw. I had to include this one.” alt-J, “Taro” “There’s always an element in the production of alt-J that feels inspired by or is actually then using specific nature sounds that I find really inspiring. I opened for them on one of their tours and I’ve never seen an audience so immersed and present in their bodies as if they were in the center of a forest.” AURORA, “Runaway” “How can I have an Earth Day playlist and not include the earth angel that lives in our world right now? Her songs always make me feel like I’m running barefoot somewhere, and for that I feel really grateful she’s still creating art.”
