Kaiit: Moon Love Songs
Playlist - 29 Songs
“This playlist is filled with songs that make me feel like it’s cold outside whilst I’m warm and cozy inside,” Kaiit tells Apple Music. “These songs get me in such a mellow mood, unwinding from my day.” The Naarm (Melbourne) artist’s winter playlist celebrates the heartening embrace of soul and classic jazz standards, with timeless versions of oft-interpreted numbers from the likes of Ella Fitzgerald and Billie Holiday, along with a few cuts from Kaiit herself. Setting the scene, she says: “I would be pressing play on this playlist when I’m needing some breathing space. Going for a solo walk, having a late-afternoon shower, fading out to sleep. I think it’s something about those old records: they have such a special sound to them. The sound isn’t as shiny, [but] I think that’s what adds to the cozy feelings.” Below, she talks more about some of her favorite playlist picks. Tommy Dorsey & Frank Sinatra, “Polka Dots and Moonbeams” “These trumpets make me so happy. And [it] always blends beautiful into the next track.” Duke Ellington, “Solitude” “It’s always nice to listen to music without any lyrics. Sometimes [that] gives you that extra space to feel it for yourself and just let the music do its thing.” June Christy, “Something Cool” “Again, the trumpets. They make me close my eyes the whole way through, with a big smirk.” Django Reinhardt & The Quintet of the Hot Club of France, “After You’re Gone” “My recent favorite combo is guitar and violin. Django literally be singing with that guitar. This one makes me feel like I’m about to plate myself dinner to sit down and eat.” Ella Fitzgerald, “I’ve Got a Crush on You” “This song is giving big candle energy: warm baths, phone on airplane mode and glittery biodegradable bath bombs.”
