Crooked Colours’ slinky, soulful approach to dance music is poised yet organic, with songs that glide naturally along with Philip Slabber’s pleading, almost whispered vocals. With its soothing mantra “I flow through,” the Fremantle act’s 2017 single “Flow” eventually achieved platinum sales in Australia, as did the next year’s softly percolating “Do It Like You.” Teamups with rapper Ivan Ooze (2017’s “I Hope You Get It”) and Ladyhawke (2019’s “Never Dance Alone”) saw Crooked Colours flirt with EDM and synth-pop, respectively, while Slabber’s 2021 guest spot on Hayden James’ “Rather Be with You” added romance and vulnerability to dependable club mechanics. When Slabber decided to move forward as the project’s sole member in 2025, he announced the new era with “I Can’t Forget You,” a cowrite with The Presets’ Julian Hamilton that showcased some of his most confiding singing and lyrics to date. As with other gorgeous Crooked Colours creations, it establishes a strong emotional connect before gradually ratcheting up the BPM.
