By creating dense arrangements from a diverse record collection, DJ Soulscape has become one of the most respected DJs in South Korea. His work draws on the overlooked era of Korean music from the '60s and '70s, influenced by American soul. “Candy Funk”, from his 2000 debut, displays his sampling skills and love of Motown-style beats, while the 2003 track “Love is a Song” pairs a retro organ sound with rumbling jazz horns. Although his love of funk remains constant, he does slow it down occasionally, such as on 2007’s “He and She”, where a laidback beat and jangling chimes take centre stage.
