Formerly a member of Genesis, Steve Hackett appeared with the band during their '70s progressive rock period, from 1971's Nursery Cryme to the live double-album Seconds Out. Having released his first solo effort, Voyage of the Acolyte, in 1975, he decided to pursue a full-time solo career in 1977. He achieved success with a string of albums, including 1980's British Top Ten Defector, mainly in the rock vein, but took many detours afterward, including 1984's Til We Have Faces (rooted in Brazilian samba), the mid-'80s supergroup GTR, 1997's A Midsummer Night's Dream (with neo-classical influences), 2021's instrumental/acoustic Under a Mediterranean Sky, and multiple-volume tributes to his former band under the name Genesis Revisited.
