About John Trueheart
Biografia dell'artista
b. c.1900, Baltimore, Maryland, USA, d. 1949, New York City, New York, USA. Trueheart started out playing banjo and guitar with local bands, where another young hopeful was his close friend, Chick Webb. When Webb went to New York, Trueheart also uprooted and remained with Webb, apart from a long illness, until the drummer’s death. Trueheart stayed on with the band which continued under the nominal leadership of Ella Fitzgerald. He then teamed up with Art Hodes and others for a short time before illness prevailed and he retired from music. A solid and dependable (and clearly very loyal) musician, Trueheart’s playing on his many records with Webb is rarely clearly audible given the technical shortcomings of the period. Nevertheless, he was an ideal big band player, helping to provide a strong rhythmic pulse to one of the best of the era’s bands.
