Everybody just wants to have fun at Cyndi Lauper’s farewell tour—especially Lauper. “I really want this to be a great party,” she tells Apple Music. And what better way to toast the pop icon's legendary career? For Lauper, performing represents a sentimental, intimate exchange between artist and fan; it's where she can “see the audience, their faces, their reactions, them singing along, holding hands, dancing, holding up signs,” she says. “It's a give-and-take that you don’t get in the studio. It says, ‘I really appreciate that you have supported me and I am sending all that love right back to you.’” As you can see from the set list, her decades-spanning career will be well-represented on tour. “I’m doing songs from across the spectrum of my catalog,” she says—from 1983's “She Bop,” a cheeky ode to female sexuality, to the 1986 ballad “True Colors,” which became an anthem in the AIDS awareness movement. Fittingly, “Girls Just Want to Have Fun” will be the show-stopper—literally and figuratively. “We do that last to leave everyone happy and energized,” she says. “That’s the time to really cut loose.”
