Biografía de este/a artista
In the ’70s, pioneering all-female hard-rock band The Runaways brought a much-needed jolt of glammy energy and tough-as-nails attitude to proto-punk music. Cofounded by guitarist Joan Jett and drummer Sandy West in 1975, the Los Angeles group rounded out their lineup with the addition of guitarist Lita Ford, bassist Jackie Fox, and vocalist Cherie Currie. This iteration of The Runaways released a 1976 self-titled debut that was produced by the infamously domineering Kim Fowley and featured the band’s slamming signature song, “Cherry Bomb.” Their 1977 follow-up, Queens of Noise, included the melodic hard-rock title track and the punkish “I Love Playin’ With Fire.” After touring with Van Halen and Cheap Trick, creative disagreements led to The Runaways’ split in early 1979. Jett and Ford went on to enjoy bigger commercial success as solo artists in the ’80s, and The Runaways' radical spirit and legacy lives on through generations of fearless female rockers, Courtney Love and Hayley Williams among them.
