A kid actor, teen singer, and adult cautionary tale, Leif Garrett's career has unfortunately followed the classic child-star downward trajectory. Garrett got his start in the early '70s as an actor in small TV and film roles, where his wholesome good looks and natural style made an impression on casting directors and audiences alike. By the mid-'70s, the teenaged star recorded some lightweight pop albums that rocketed to the top of the charts thanks to his rabid pre-adolescent fanbase. Garrett returned to acting in the '80s, but his craft was overshadowed by his drug addictions, which landed him in trouble with the police on several occasions. In more recent years, Garrett has taken acting roles that capitalize on and poke fun at his former teen idol image, but he continues to wrestle with substance abuse problems.
