Biografía de este/a artista
Initially formed for a television performance, Italian operatic pop trio Il Volo has become a thriving international act.
• Il Volo comprises baritone Gianluca Ginoble and tenors Piero Barone and Ignazio Boschetto. Their name translates to “The Fight.”
• Barone, Boschetto, and Ginoble each appeared as teenaged soloists on Italy's Ti Lascio Una Canzone television series. Show creator Roberto Cenci suggested they perform together.
• On the series, the three singers joined to perform the Neapolitan standard “O Sole Mio.” The collaboration impressed veteran producer Tony Renis, who arranged a meeting with Jimmy Iovine and Ron Fair. The execs signed the trio to Geffen, making them the first Italian act on the label.
• After the release of their eponymous 2010 debut album—which reached No. 10 in the US and No. 6 in Italy—Il Volo performed on a series of US TV shows, including American Idol, Ellen, and Entourage.
• Il Volo represented Italy at the 2015 Eurovision Song Contest with “Grand amore,” the title track off their fourth studio album. They finished in third place.
• In 2016, Il Volo issued Notte Magica: A Tribute to the Three Tenors. The live album features original Three Tenors member Plácido Domingo.
