Formed in 1992 with an agenda of musical violence against staid Norwegian society, the pioneering black metal band Gorgoroth has gone through many members and permutations, and has even split into two factions, both using the name Gorgoroth. From the time of their debut full-length. PENTAGRAM, through the addition of vocalist Gaahl, and right up to the present, Gorgoroth has followed the “left-hand path” of blatant Satanism. Prosecutions for blasphemy in Krakow, friction with their label, and arrests have failed to defeat them, however, and their black metal sound has only expanded to include industrial, blues, and noise elements.
