Artist Biography
The boundary-crossing hip-hop that Louisiana native YK Toon first dropped in 2019 with the release of his debut mixtape, No Play Zone, propelled him above the standard mix of trap and hip-hop of many of his peers.
Based in Houma, Louisiana, YK Toon first started rapping in 2018, originally under the name NFL Toon, before switching. Toon started making a name for himself with the self-released tracks "City Rollin" and "Free Ziggy," before dropping his debut mixtape, No Play Zone, in 2019. Inspired by the likes of Lil Baby and NBA YoungBoy, Toon's style of hip-hop, which transcends the usual trap and drill-inspired sound, fuses melody with lyrics that tell tales of everyday life. 2020 saw Toon deliver his second mixtape, I Don't Play (NFL Rules 1.0), which included the Quando Rondo-featuring remix of "City Rollin." ~ Rich Wilson
