Lean, melodic indie dance with a woozy, downcast air.
About Metronomy
Artist Biography
Originally a solo project for English musician and producer Joseph Mount, Metronomy has morphed into a long-running electro-pop group known to dabble in funk, disco, yacht rock, and more.
• Mount began making music as Metronomy as a teenager in the late ’90s when his dad gave him a computer, and he began performing as a DJ while attending university in Brighton in the early 2000s.
• Performing on his own with a laptop was ”pretty crap,” Mount once said, so he recruited his cousin Oscar Cash and school friend Gabriel Stebbing to join him as a band. Though Stebbing left Metronomy in 2009, the lineup eventually expanded to include Anna Prior, Olugbenga Adelekan, and Michael Lovett.
• Influenced by French house music and the Warp Records catalogue, Metronomy released their first album, Pip Paine (Pay the £5000 You Owe), in 2006.
• The group’s third album, 2011’s The English Riviera, went Top 30 in the UK and was nominated for the Mercury Prize.
• Metronomy’s 2014 follow-up, Love Letters, drew more from the sound of ’60s pop than from electronic music. The album went Top 10 in the UK.
• Between Metronomy projects, Mount wrote and produced “Adore You” for Jessie Ware and worked with Robyn on half a dozen songs for her 2018 album Honey.
• Metronomy released their sixth album, Metronomy Forever, in 2019.
• Along with making their own music, Metronomy have remixed songs by acts including Lady Gaga, Franz Ferdinand, and Gorillaz.
