French American rapper Lucas Coly, aka Kid Lucas, achieved internet fame with bilingual raps before establishing himself as a successful recording artist.
• Coly was born in France, where he lived for the first eight years of his life. He then moved with his family to Texas and later Detroit, where he spent most of his childhood.
• He became popular as a teen in the early 2010s via the now-defunct video app Vine. He uploaded videos of himself rapping in English and French.
• Around this time, Coly and friends Willie Fryson III and Dillyn Troy formed a rap group called Diamondz. They eventually parted ways to pursue solo careers.
• In December 2016, Coly released his first mixtape, Prince of France. The music video for the single “I Just Wanna” has surpassed 15 million views.
