His gospel-tinged pop has the zip of jazz and the ache of soul.
About Jacob Collier
Artist Biography
Jacob Collier’s knack for stirring harmonies brings a soulful touch to his intricate R&B arrangements. Born in London in 1994, he was raised by a violinist/music professor mother. In 2011, he started sharing his work via social media, and the videos he crafted—layered, multiscreen performances of songs by artists including Stevie Wonder—showcased his gifts for vocalization and arranging. This early work landed Collier a deal with Quincy Jones’ management company in 2014, while he was studying at the Royal Academy of Music. Collier’s rich mix of talent and music theory acumen have helped him create genre-blurring pop that’s both virtuosic and moving, like the dreamy single “Hideaway” from his 2016 debut album, In My Room. It’s only natural that his musical inclinations would result in collaboration, and his conceptual Djesse album series features the likes of Hamid El Kasri, Sam Amidon, Daniel Caesar, and Collier’s mom all helping to build his ornate soundscapes.
