As half of Montgomery Gentry, Eddie Montgomery updated classic Southern rock with the overblown sound of 1990s rockin' country, a combination that turned the duo into one of the biggest country acts of the 2000s. During that decade, Montgomery Gentry topped the Billboard Country charts with "If You Ever Stop Loving Me," "Something to Be Proud Of," "Lucky Man," "Back When I Knew It All," and "Roll with Me," tracks that gave them a songbook that retained their popularity even when the hits started to slow in the 2010s. After Troy Gentry's tragic death in 2017, Eddie continued performing as Montgomery Gentry, eventually launching a solo career with 2022's Ain't No Closing Me Down, an album that stayed true to the oversized guitars, rhythms, and emotions of Montgomery Gentry.
