After hearing Aoi Teshima sing Bette Midler’s “The Rose,” Studio Ghibli director Goro Miyazaki and producer Toshio Suzuki invited her to work with them on Tales from Earthsea.
∙ Teshima was a high school student when she made her artistic debut in the animated film Tales from Earthsea, in which she voiced the character Therru and sang the theme song.
∙ She narrated the 2012 documentary A Circle of 21 Children, which follows 21 sixth-grade students from Isobe Elementary School in the aftermath of the 2011 Fukushima tsunami and nuclear accident.
∙ Her single “Love That Makes You Cry” won Best Theme Song honors at the 2016 Tokyo Drama Awards.
∙ In 2016, her song “Asu E No Tegami” hit No. 1 on the Billboard Japan Hot 100.
