Artist Biography
Alvin & The Chipmunks is a hit-making animated trio created and originally voiced by Ross Bagdasarian Sr., who recorded the No. 1 hit “Witch Doctor” in 1958 under the name David Seville.
∙ Their 1958 debut, “The Chipmunk Song (Christmas Don’t Be Late),” was the first holiday single to reach No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 and won three Grammy Awards.
∙ Alvin & The Chipmunks have had four Top 10 Pop albums, starting with their Grammy-winning 1959 debut full-length, Let’s All Sing With the Chipmunks.
∙ The 1980 LP Chipmunk Punk, which featured covers of songs by The Knack and Blondie, kicked off the modern Chipmunks era and was the first to feature Bagdasarian’s son on voices.
∙ Chipmunks in Low Places was a 1992 US and Canadian Country hit that featured performances by Billy Ray Cyrus and Tammy Wynette, as well as songwriting by Andrew Gold.
