Singer and songwriter Allen Stone breathes new life into the sounds and socially conscious messages of classic ’60s and ’70s soul and R&B.
• The son of a preacher, Stone started singing and playing guitar in his father’s church. As a teenager, he discovered classic soul and R&B artists like Stevie Wonder and Marvin Gaye.
• After a year at Moody Bible College in Spokane, Washington, Stone realized he no longer believed in the church’s teachings. He dropped out and moved to Seattle to pursue music.
• He self-released his debut album, Last to Speak, in 2010.
• For his 2011 self-titled sophomore LP, Stone worked with retro-soul hero Raphael Saadiq's rhythm section and keyboardist Deron Johnson, whose credits include Miles Davis. Allen Stone went Top 5 on Billboard’s Heatseekers Albums chart despite the fact Stone didn’t have a distribution deal. ATO Records signed Stone and re-released the album in 2012.
• The singer signed to Capitol Records for the release of his third full-length, 2015’ Radius, recorded with the Swedish songwriter and producer Tingsek.
• After Radius failed to produce a hit single, Stone asked to be dropped by Capitol. He returned to ATO for 2019’s Building Balance.
