About The Mummies
Artist Biography
Proud sons of the Bay Area’s garage rock revival of the late ‘80s, the Mummies played primitive, ferociously energetic rock & roll on budget line instruments, making an uproarious racket that combined the unrestrained spirit of early rock & roll with the rabid vitriol of punk. The group was locally infamous for performing in dirty mummy costumes that obscured their identities and for riding around the Bay Area in a modified hearse with their name scrawled across the side. Though they were mostly renowned for their chaotic live act, the Mummies’ records, which were released in small, vinyl-only runs on the tiny Estrus label, are as raucous and gloriously sloppy as anything to emerge from the garage revival of the late ‘80s and early ‘90s.
