About Red
Artist Biography
For more than a decade, Nashville hard rock outfit Red has combined angsty riffs with a message of faith, topping the charts while expanding the boundaries of Christian music.
∙ Formed in 2002 by a trio of childhood friends, the band wanted a name that was “short, meaningful, and easy to remember,” selecting Red as a reference to the blood of Christ.
∙ Their 2006 debut LP, End of Silence, hit No. 7 on Billboard’s Top Christian Albums chart, went Gold, and earned a Grammy nomination for Best Rock or Rap Gospel Album.
∙ “Breathe Into Me,” the lead single from End of Silence, earned Red their first Dove Award—and they’ve since won five more.
∙ Mainstream success came with 2009’s Innocence & Instinct, which hit No. 15 on the Billboard 200, while 2011’s C.S. Lewis-inspired Until We Have Faces peaked at No. 2.
∙ The band teamed up with Benjamin Burnley (frontman of fellow heavy rock outfit Breaking Benjamin) to write “Shadows,” a nu-metal romp from the 2009 LP Innocence & Instinct.
∙ Red has reached No. 1 on the Billboard Top Christian Albums chart five times, and their most recent LP, 2020’s Declaration, landed at No. 2.
